We are passionate about helping people who want to return to work but are challenged by a health condition or disability. Each year, we help hundreds of people find and retain work, working with employers and other agencies to ensure that the transition to employment is an ongoing success.

We deliver Pathways to Work, WORKSTEP and Work Preparation across the UK in: Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Sussex, South West and the North East.

We provide:

• Back to work programmes for people in special circumstances
• Expert advice to employers about disability related employment issues
• Free professional recruitment services offering candidates for interview and continued on-the-job support
• Information, advice and guidance on performance related health issues
• On-going mentoring and support for retention of staff who may be at risk of losing their jobs due to illness, health conditions or disability

We help our customers:

• Understanding the local job market
• Build confidence
• Set and achieve goals
• Apply for and be interviewed for a job
• Managing an ongoing health condition
• Start work and settle in

How we do it
We work to implement Department of Works and Pensions voluntary programmes that help those dependent upon incapacity benefits prepare for and enter employment.

All of our programmes are supported by skilled advisers who work to ensure a successful move into employment. Our commitment doesn’t end when we help our customers find work – we also provide on-the-job advice and support to help them settle in.

Our work is directly sponsored by the Government with no costs being passed on to the job seeker or their employer.

Pathways to Work

Since April 2008 RBLI has worked in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to deliver Pathways to Work in Kent and Surrey & Sussex. Pathways is a new way to help people with health conditions and disabilities find employment, providing support to help them move into work.

There are around 100,000 people in Kent, Surrey and Sussex receiving an incapacity benefit, who are now eligible to volunteer for Pathways. We are working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, determined to help disadvantaged people find the right job for them.

We provide

• Direct support from one of our highly skilled employment advisers – including:
  • Work focused interviews, to help plan the journey back to work
  • A personal work action plan
  • Finding the right job—we work with a large number of employers
  • Advice on CV writing, applying for a job and attending the interview
  • Support in work to make sure the new job is a success
• The Condition Management Programme – advice delivered by healthcare professionals to help manage a health condition in the workplace
• A Return to Work Creditof £40 weekly (paid by Jobcentre Plus for 52 weeks if earnings are £15,000 or less a year)

WORKSTEP

What is it?
A free service to help those with a health condition or disability find and retain work. Help is provided on a long-term basis, both leading to and during employment. RBLI Employment Solutions advisers deliver the programme, working with both the employee and employer. Appropriate in-work support is also provided for employees at risk of losing their job due to a health condition or disability.

How does it work?
WORKSTEP centres on a unique Personal Development Plan, agreed between an RBLI Employment Solutions Adviser and the job finder. The Plan identifies the actions the job finder must take to return to work and, when employed, to remain in work. Once employment begins, benefit entitlement can be protected for up to 52 weeks.

Who can use it?
WORKSTEP is available to those receiving benefits including:

Incapacity Benefit, Income Support (with a disability component), Disability Living Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Job Seeker’s Allowance (in certain circumstances).

WORKSTEP is also provided for employees at risk of losing their job due to a health condition or disability.

What is provided?
One to one support from a specialist RBLI Employment Solutions Adviser, who will provide advice on all aspects of finding the right job, including:

• Calculating how ‘better off’ a person is in employment
• Understanding the local job market
• Submitting quality job applications
• Succeeding at job interviews
• Meeting employers who are positive about equal opportunities
• Support in work from a job coach – through induction and on an ongoing basis
• Access to Work guidance
• Providing access to funding for any specialist equipment required to do the job (e.g. a ramp for a wheelchair user)
• Arranging training in employment
• Support and advice to employees and employers
• Providing Disability Awareness Training for employers
